5 Miles!!!

So I have my wonderful family here visiting from The Netherlands, we get them for 3 whole weeks and what a great time we are having!!

Els is a runner and does training 2-3 times a week at home, so she has been so kind as to go with me this week and give me some great tips, so great in fact that I ran my first 5 miles!! What an exhilarating feeling to know that i have once again run farther than ever before, and that I WILL be able to run a marathon in June!!

I am so thankful for my family and the support they give to me. I have the best sisters in the world. I am excited to go on this journey with KL. I am also so glad that she has the patience to listen to me!!  Thanks:)

We are snowmobiling and skiing this week, there is soooo much snow here which means fun for all!!

Happy New Year, make 2011 the year to remember.

List of excuses

I have run a total of 6.3 miles in the last 3 weeks. I have several excuses for my lack of motivation, the biggest being I'm just plain lazy!!  I'm not really sure what is wrong I simply don't have the desire to go out and run, really I don't have the desire right now to do much of anything, not even laundry and I LOVE to do laundry (seriously I do) Not sure if I have an early case of the wintertime blahs or if life is catching up to me and all the sadness and heartache are hitting me and I don't even realize it. I've been going through some personal struggles for a couple of weeks and can't seem to do more than just the bare minimum to get by.

I have so much to be grateful for, but sometimes do you ever just want to say "hey look at me sometimes my life is hard too??" I just want to have a pity party.

I think I will take the rest of this week off and begin fresh again next week, the kids will be home so I will definitely want to get out of the house!! Plus all the goodies we will be making for Christmas treats will need to find a way off of my hips!!

Here are some more of my excuses

It's too cold
I don't have cute running clothes
My knees hurt
It's too cold
I ate too late
I haven't eaten yet
It's cold
Can't find my socks
Need to check facebook
My hair is wet
I didn't sleep well
And of course........It's COLD!!!!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Falling behind??

Sorry i have not posted for a few days.... It is all KL's fault, she said she would post so I was giving her a chance!!!J/K

I ran 4.2 miles Saturday in the snow, it was a lot more fun then in the cold!! For my birthday Shawn gave me a watch thingy that tracks my pace, route, time, distance all of that stuff it syncs with the computer and has a gps, so I should never get lost!!  I can't figure out how to use it so I have to wait until Shawn shows me what to do!!

I have not run at all this week, I had a special birthday lunch with some very special friends on Tuesday and we had a snow day today, there was no way I was going to risk being out there on the roads with that mess!!

I will do P90X or something tomorrow.....yea right I will probably not do anything who am I kidding!!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and looking forward to a wonderful Christmas season.

What was I thinking?????

The sun is shining, the sky is blue, what a beautiful day for a run!! I get on my hoodie and scarf and gloves and hat, off I go........ What the heck it is FREEZING. I can only go about 2 miles my face is frozen:) I turn around and head for home, who do I see but Shawn and Dylan riding bikes to come and meet me. I told them that it was too cold and I was going back!! Amazingly they agreed!!!

Got home and checked the weather, temp was 9 that's 9 degrees above zero with a wind chill of 5 yes you read that right 5, FIVE, cinco, vijf BRRRRR.

I thought it was not supposed to be that cold here???  Well at least I ran and tomorrow is going to be 22 so much warmer!!

Treadmill.....

I went with Shawn this week on one of his business trips, just to have some time with him, and I had to run on a treadmill.  Now I have done treadmill workouts before (thanks Dana!!) but this was just not the same. I HATED it. I was bored to death, the tv's were so far away and I guess you were supposed to have special headphones from the front desk to hear them, so I was just running with nothing to keep my interest. I am a simple person with a simple mind (no comments please!) but running for 33 minutes with nothing to do really got to me. So much so that Shawn had to endure my whining about it for half the drive home!! Another thing that I realised while using the treadmill was that I guess I do not quite maintain the 9.5-10 minute mile I thought I was doing!!  Good thing my goal is to just finish not time it, eh!!!!

Needless to say I will be enjoying my run this morning outside! Did I say enjoying?? I meant......well I guess I am beginning to somewhat enjoy it:)

Happy Thanksgiving

Remember to cherish those around you whenever you can, but especially this time of year.

4 MILES!!!

Today I ran 4 miles, that's right I said 4.  Now for some of you this may not seem like such a big deal compared to the 26 we will be running in June, but to me it is HUGE! I have never run 4 miles in my life. I am thinking that I will stick with this for my next week run also.  I am going to do a 10k (maybe) on December 18th so I want to make sure I can get through it, there are some pretty good hills near my house that I will be trying next week as well!!

Funny thing that happened while running, going along and suddenly I can breath a lot easier, one of the buttons popped on my sweats, now I have had theses pants for quite a few years so they have seen some better days but come on it could have at least waited until I got closer to home!! So for the last 1/2 mile or so I was running and holding my pants up, what talent!!

I was told to get some Glucosamine so I went to Walmart an picked some up, Shawn has informed me that Equate brand is NOT suitable, so throwing it out there what are the best vitamins/supplements??? Give me some feedback.

First 'long' run

So I did my first long run today, it was about 3.5 miles, did good!

Here are some random thoughts while running(and yes I use the word running even though I am far from running!!) By the way this picture was from February 2009, it is not snowing here!!

I will never buy pottery barn sheets again, you would think that they would at least be wrinkle free.
It doesn't really matter how the silverware gets put in the dishwasher, what matters is how it is placed in the drawer.
Do I kick my foot out too far to the right?
If I won the $5000 home depot sweepstakes what would I do?
Should we replace the upstairs toilet or just the seat?
If I had $20,000 what would I do?
If I had $20,000 why not $200,000 why stop there because if the money fairy is giving me $200,000 why not $2,000,000? This one kept me going for almost 2 miles!!

It was a good run!! I read in one of the articles I've been studying that one guy thinks you don't need music when running a marathon just a good pair of shoes, my thoughts kept me occupied for 30 minutes, I wonder if they will keep me going for 4 hours and 30 minutes???

I will run with music next week on the long run which is supposed to be about 4 miles and let you know!!

Have a great day
Nath

Off we go......

Our Halloween Costume

We were the double-mint twins

(Shawn and Troy were hunting we had to do something!!)

Ok so here is the first of hopefully many posts that will describe the ups, the downs and the all arounds of us training for our first marathon! This is Nath doing the first post and you will be able to tell the difference in writing styles very soon, I am so much funnier in person and KL is so much funnier in writing!!!

We will be running the Utah Valley Marathon June 11,2011. We chose this one because of the charitable causes it sponsors, mainly Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation. If you would like to know more visit utahvalleymarathon.com we are excited (or at least as excited as one can be with the thought of running 26 miles 385 yards!!!)

Training officially began November 1,2010. Tell your friends, follow along, tell us your thoughts, your suggestions, and even leave a little note of encouragement if you so desire. But enjoy this ride (haha RUN) with us.

Let the fun begin!!!!
